It is true that you cannot rely on backtest. You can only compare BT and demo accounts if the EA uses close candles to place order.
e.g. if it uses hourly chart , the open orders are placed on 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 etc. If EA makes decision based on ticks, this will not be the same as the broker ticks may not be the same as where your BT ticks comes from. Also demo account ticks are the the same as live account ticks.

No one should treat EA as a black box. It will be usefull, if we know the strategy of the EA without the author giving up all its secrets. That way we know which pair will work, timeframe etc. But I see everyone just wants an EA and settings and make money without any work!.

This EA does not have too many settings which is good and author is generous enough to share with us.
